i have been hacking my Grado headphones and had put some putty on the driver to damp back wave resonance. i picked this trick up on various forums. i also removed the plastic grill which made a nice improvement
i was thinking fast and light vs mass and damping and removed the putty to see what the difference was now after several more mods. And the sound was a bit better. so i glued a small brass weight to he back of the driver and it made an appreciable difference. now there is much more resonance but all of a musical or musical detail type.
The glue adds some rigidity and any resonance rings along with the brass.
I bet a small brass washer will add more rigidity.
wondering about loading the back of speaker driver with a brass bolt, etc.
