It is not really true that high-impedance headphones are "harder to drive" than low-impedance ones. Headphone "sensitivity" is the gauge, but high-impedance headphones like voltage while low-impedance headphones like current. The amplifier must be capable of giving the headphones the kind of power that they like most...
