RE: design considerations

I'd probably start by getting one in stock condition working well. A unit as old as the Dyna 400 may need some TLC - parts are old and if it was assembled from a kit, you never know how well the job was done. (I bought a used one probably 30 years ago that made a burning smell when I powered it up - fortunately I was able to get a refund.)

Manuals are available on line (see HiFi Engine link below)- you can start there. Dynaco manuals usually include a "Theory of Operation" section for the technically inclined.

Once you have one working well and you feel comfortable poking around inside, then you can look into typical enhancements. Here's a page from someone who dove in, maybe you can get some ideas from this:
