VLC for saving DVD-A discs?

I've just started trying this program for my iMac. It seems I can save the DVD audio to maybe my iTunes? Does anyone know what settings are important to use to make sure I get just the full resolution unadulterated music? Will my Apple TV output the full resolution to my DAC? My DAC is the Stello DA100 Sig. w/ 24-192 abilities so am I right is assuming it will play the DVD-A music?

Sorry for what may be stupid questions but thought I'd give it a try.
