... I would be very suprised after reading an interview of T Bone Burnette in Stereophile last year. He truly hates to use use compression and is an avid fan of using the whole dynamic range for recording. Maybe it was compressed in the mastering but that does not make much sense considering his influence but hey, who knows?

As for his mixes he does seem to use alot of layers which makes some individual sounds hard to pick out. Lots of spacey guitars and plenty of reverb. I tend to prefer a more straight ahead mix for bluesy music but I do enjoy the sound of Raising Sand, especially the drums. The recent Melencamp disc has a similar sound but the material is not as strong.
