LP to DVD-A on a Mac?

What would I need to convert my LPs to hi-res format on my Mac? I know my Mac has iDVD for video conversion, and it can burn a DVD-A as I've recently done that with DSOTM. But can it do the conversion from the stereo input? Will the ADC run at 24/96 or even 24/48?

My Mac is an Intel iMac from this year so computer power shouldn't be an issue, and it has the DVD burner which works pretty fast. I have the phono pre-amp so it would only need to do line-level input. I don't have Toast, or anything else that didn't come with OSX.

And as a side question, if I can get it to record at a high bit rate, can an iPod play it? I think I've read where it only does 16/44.1. In any case, there are way too many formats out there to keep them all straight.
