Sunya,

Please see the proof that Nyquist Sampling Theory is incorrect in the link in my previous post. Nyquist Theory would predict that you could reproduce a 10 khz square wave with a 44.1 sampling rate, but the theory falls flat on it's face when presented with the reality of an oscilloscope. I guess it is back to the drawing board for Nyquist. Too bad Nyquist died before digital music was wide spread. I am sure he never intended to be put in the middle of debate pitting people who have ears and those that only have pencils and paper.

I believe Nyquist's theory can reproduce a CONSISTENT wave form at twice the sampling rate, but when applied to real world data that is NOT consistent, you simply need more data to reproduce the wave form correctly.

Also, don't be cheap with the bits. We can afford HD audio, the data rates are just not that high (4.5 megabytes per second per channel), as compared to uncompressed HD video for example (18 megabytes a second, no audio). Data rate is just not an argument against HD audio.

I'm 100% positive this is not the end of this digital age old continuing argument. Hit me with your best shot!
