"a wise enthusiast knows where money needs (or does not need) to be spent"
Everyone has their own different cost-benefit equation. I heard a 100k Caliburn turntable once. There are people who can spend 100K without a great deal of concern, there are actually many such people. If I were among them, I would unhesitatingly buy that turntable. It was an audio peak experience.
Other people need to fit all their audio into a budget of $1000 or less. Their decisions are different. But I believe they are deluding themselves when they claim that spending more will yield no further improvement. Maybe the improvement is not worth the extra cost to them, that's fine. But the point of diminishing returns is different for everyone.
