I just discovered DVD-V audio. I'm transfering vintage 78rpm to 96/24 two channel mono wave files. The software is Audio DVD Creator. The ease of burning and quality of the end result is nothing less than astounding. I don't understand the lamenting and hand-wringing about DVD-V. It is here and now, and wonderful for the home (and professional) recording enthusiast. Why is everyone doing the woulda-shoulda-coulda on this great medium? I can't imagine a more perfect fit for the computer age and digital recording. These disks seem to play back on any black box that says "DVD" on the face -- and they sound amazing!
Why is it too late to pick up this technology, and run with it? Everyone owns a DVD player -- the other formats seem to be canceling each other out. DVD-Vs could satisfy both the hi-rez niche and consumers with tin ears. It's easy and cheap and good -- and maybe the timing is better than ever. Am I missing something?
