Thanks to you and tunenut for this very interesting information that I never knew about. (But in the 90s I read most of my audio stuff only from one or two audio magazine from a library and could not afford to buy much equipment or discs.)
So in your opinion why did this flop? Was it not enough publicity? Not enough software? (Classic & Chesky are small producers.) Or the confusion due to the introduction of SACD & DVD-A?
I think the adoption of a completely new section in the DVD (audio_ts) for DVDA was a mistake. They should have just added MLP, 192/24 support, etc to the regular DVD (video_ts) and called it DVD ver2. Older players could have ignored the unplayable stuff, just like many players cannot play DTS tracks.
