which was an attempt by a few companies, Muse is the only one I remember, to put out 2 channel music at 96/24, essentially DVD-Video. There were a small number of these brought to market and they were quite good. However, the format was a non-starter commercially, as is anything predicated on sound quality. Sound quality is a hard sell, of interest only to a small minority. DVD-A was primarily marketed as multichannel. The idea was that many people were buying home theaters capable of multichannel and that these people could be sold on surround sound music. Multichannel would be the hook for the masses (indeed a good multichannel system is remarkable). But the market did not really materialize.
