Thanks for the lead. I found the following review that confirms what you are saying. Sounds like this conductor has issues. Seems to me Beethoven was alive when his symphonies were performed and he would have known what tempo they should have been played at. The tempo could then be passed down from performer to listener (some who become performers) and the tempo would be preserved through the ages. It is not like his works went undiscovered for years and we had no idea of how to perform them.

Also, the reviewer could not find the 192/24 bit tracks on the DVD, so I think I will pass on these recordings. But I will continue to investigate them.

The search continues.....
