I just received an email from Classic Records saying that my credit card has been charged for the two new Everest DVD-Audio discs and that the shipment was being prepared. Yes, it's been a long delay. And I seem to remember that a third disc was announced, but it seems to have disappeared. Was it the Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 with Sargent?

It's odd that the vinyl releases have not been delayed. I don't understand the source of the pitch variation. It should be on both formats, as both are mastered from the original 35mm film recordings. I hope the problem originates with the digital processing, then it can be corrected.

I too was a little disappointed with the sound on the Macal Mahler No. 6. I think the SACD version is marginally better than the DVD-Audio version. I have been tempted to try some of the Exton SACDs of Newmann's Mahler series. I have a 3-disc box of LPs by Philips of Mahler No. 5 & No. 6 with Neumann and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Nice analogue sound. I think this was some sort of coproduction with the East Germans before reunification.
