Toshiba DVD 4900

66.202.27.62

Picked up one of these for $99 last week at my local (independent) electronics store. No SACD but it does play DVD-A, which is what I have been using it for. So far the sound on DVD-A's is a bit bright and thin to my ears. Hopefully the sound will mellow a little after some more use. FWIW I have been listening to mostly PPCM tracks on the 2 channel setting via stereo outs > Cardas Cross > Grado headphone amp > Sennheiser 600's.

The DVD 4900 is very simple to use...at least for 2 channel DVD-A playback. Unlike other decks I have used, I have not yet been able to display the bit rate upon playback. As the 2 channel rez is sometimes different than what is labeled on the DVD-A cover, I really like being able to see the actual rates.

Any other folks using the DVD 4900? Is there a way to display the actual rez levels during DVD-A playback? Anyone had any luck with mods to the DVD 4900?

Paul
