OK Gary, here's your list - start checking them off:
92nd Street Y (outstanding recital hall, great programming)
Alice Tully Hall (another great recital hall)
Met Opera (seats start at $27)
Carnegie Hall
Fisher/Geffen Hall (awful, but great performances happen there)
David H. Koch Theater (née New York State Theater) truly great ballet hall
Brooklyn Academy of Music, aka BAM - great hall and great programming
Town Hall
Beacon Theater (best rock band venue on the planet?)
Apollo Theater
Mannes Concert Hall
Merkin Concert Hall
Weill Recital Hall
Zankel Hall
Also, dozens of bars that feature great singer/songwriters, like the Living Room (currently moved to Brooklyn somewhere), Caffe Vivaldi, Sugar Bar, several joints on Ludlow. There are still a couple survivors of the Village folk scene - the Bitter End and Cafe Wha I think are both still open.
Gotta do 'em all. Have fun.
