Are you tellin' me that the "vor Gott" section doesn't evoke an almost spiritual emotional response in you? 'Cause if so, you are one cold dude (kidding!) or you need new speakers - lol. I listen to that movement from the "landing" on our stairway, which, btw, is the sweetist spot for my system.
I have 3 or 4 recordings of the Ninth, and I'd have to listen to them again to decide which one I like the most, but the CSO with Sir Georg Solti comes to mind as being an excellent performance. That could partially be because I'm a big fan of Solti, Adolph Herseth (trumpet), and "the Chicago sound"). Actually, I read Solti's book "Memoirs" in about two days - fascinating life.
About The Planets. This is my kind of orchestral music (well, one of them). I love the whole piece. Which movement is it that has the almost ghostly female singers doing the "ahhhhh" thingy? - Uranus or Neptune? That's very cool.
