Every genre has its warhorses

Beethoven's 9th is sort of like the Hotel California of classical music. It's popular, accessible, and dramatic. Everyone has heard it, most have liked it, most lovers of classical music have heard it enough to grow bored of it. But it will always have its fans and I don't disparage anyone for liking something popular. There is way too much elitism in music criticism.

Personally, I love baroque music, but I'll be the first to admit that it's a shallower medium than rock simply due to the relatively narrow selection of instruments and narrow range of playing styles.
