Its a simple fact that the current measurement regime does not have much to do with hearing.

The ear/brain system uses a complex set of rules which have different goals than that of bench testing- some specs of which seem designed to make the amp or preamp look good on paper.

This IMO is a good example of the Emperor's New Clothes. They are getting rather old though at this point, as the audio industry seems to have been ignoring some of the more basic ear/brain perceptual rules for decades- since the 1960s.

That does not seem to be changing anytime soon. So the result seems to be that we will continue to see measurements that won't tell us how the amp sounds.
