RE: A question for John Atkinson

I own the LS-50 and the Audio Note AX Two ($1k) and if you can audition the latter I'd give it a whirl. It is designed by Celestion and Rogers speaker designer Andy Whittle for Audio Note. Andy is Audio Note's COO now.

Herb Reichert of Stereophile just reviewed the AZ Two D floorstander (well reviewed it at a show) which is, I believe, also designed by Whittle.

It's not as nice looking or beefy as the LS-50 but the AX Two is better on acoustic music such as piano and also for vocals. Something "in between" Celestion and LS-50. It is just as cohesive if not more-so than the KEF and the treble is smoother than the KEF which does have a metal aftertaste (albeit better than most speakers using metal drivers).

Still the AX Two is 2/3 the price and can be driven off of 7 watts. It is also hand built in Denmark using good VIFA drivers as opposed to being built in China. I could go on but you can read further thoughts here.
