Stereophile automatic renewal Scam

I have been a subscriber of Stereophile for probably 15 years or so now, however when my subscription is due for renewal soon and I was thinking of not renewing.

I received in the mail this week a letter from Stereophile and they thanked me for subscribing AND

also wanted to remind me that when you placed your current subscription order, you responded to a special offer to be entered into our AUTOMATIC RENEWAL PROGRAM

WTF , I certainly don't recall responding to this special offer 3 years ago - This is BS as that is something I would never knowingly choose.

Now I look at my credit card and pending is the next 3 years subscription.

the only way to cancel is to ring them - International rates of course.

To me this is fraudalent. I think I will be cancelling the Stereophile subscription now with this dodgy treatment - I just hope they will reverse the current transaction pending on my credit card.

Has this scam happened to any others?
