RE: Measurements vs. Reviewers

Hi,

In my opinion, the measurements story isn't as simple as it seems, or as some make it out to be.

At SoundStage!, we have what most consider to be the best loudspeaker measurements of any publication in the world. We've been doing them since 2000 with the cooperation of Canada's National Research Council, and I've headed it up.

I believe measurements can tell you plenty, but only when you do enough relevant ones. And there's the problem: I don't believe any publication, including our own, does nearly enough to tell the entire story, or even quite a bit of the story. Maybe bits and pieces, but not much more.

I feel strongly enough about this that I wrote an article about exactly what I feel speaker measurements tell you, what they don't tell you, and why I will not try to glean too much about a speaker's sound from them.

I linked it below.

Thanks,
Doug Schneider
