But I could say the same thing about any durable good. I would have to make an effort, if I had interest in such things as $500 shoes, $5K suit, an exceptional European automobile, great wine and superb food, as it all must be sought out.
We are responsible for much of this as when the auditioning is over we then want a lower price, which has killed the brick and mortar store when manufactures had to sell more and thus internet selling and Fed Ex and UPS turned the business into what it is. If I go to a brick and mortar store and they spend time with me and help me make a choice I will buy from them, period. I don't waste people's time being disingenuous about my motives. No one likes to be used.
When the market for such things is small, like high end audio, buyers must make an effort if their interest is high. I am often surprised by the fact there are any audio stores left with such a difficult business model as there is. Very hard to be in retail these days for anyone.
Local, metropolitan trade shows will be a must for high end audio to survive and grow. They are costly, but it is what it is.
