Oh please...

This never happened. John Ulrick, for whom I have great respect, was
misremembering which magazine had done this.

There is a lot of disinformation being spread. For example, some years
ago I was approached by a new advertiser in Stereophile about a review.
I asked him how many dealers he had, and he said 2. So I told him to get
back in touch when he had our minimum of 5.

"But I am an advertiser!" he argued.

"Doesn't matter," I responded.

"But I was told if I advertised in Stereophile, you would review my
product."

"Who told you that?"

"The publisher of the Absolute Sound."

:-)
