Are you confounding full range and limited range?
I've only been a regular reader for about 15 years. In that time, I think the least expensive Class A full range is one of the Revel models ~$15K. In limited range, there have been several <$5K. I recall the Revel M20 made the list at $2K (I was underwhelmed when I heard a pair, but it could have been the room or electronics at the dealer).
But remember to take the Stereophile ratings with a grain of salt. For example, I would take the Vandersteen Treo (Class B full range) over several models listed in Class A limited range.
