RE: December Stereophile - Allnic D-5000 DHT

I am old enough to have bought gear on spec that I later regretted (Dyna 120, Flame Linear 400 etc.). The amp with the highest output and lowest distortion was "clearly the best". (So said Julian Hirsch). Then along came Matti Otala who showed us that we should have been measuring slew rate and TIM. This story keeps repeating itself, or at least rhymes.

The endpoint of a souffle' is not its spectrogram, it's chemical composition, its index of refraction. It's how it tastes.
The endpoint of audio gear is how it sounds to an educated listener. All else is noise.
The old saw is that: if it sounds good and measures bad, you are measuring the wrong thing. Again.
