While I kind of agree with your view on this I have to say that I think HP himself would not have minded too much.

As to his greatness, perhaps it is a bit overstated but he was a great writer about audio and he did develop a very good, internally consistent way of explaining audio gear.

Find old TAS issues and read them and then you will understand better.
