RE:I'd call that an extortion!

Indeed, it would be the fairest way. Reviewers can only review what the manufacturers give them for review. Even if a reviewer is absolutely honest and forthcoming (i.e. publishing a negative review when appropriate), we consumers suffer because so many items are never reviewed because the mfg doesn't provide the product free of charge. The only magazine I can think of that pays for it's reviewed products is Consumer Reports and that doesn't help audiophiles.
