RE: What is "jump factor"?

Bud Fried(IMF & Fried speakers) described it well decades ago. He used the term dynamic linearity, linear changes in loudness or minimal compression of level changes.

I hear too many systems that are easy listening without dynamic linearity. They sound like wide band radios to me. It's probably the major factor in sounding live. But to get the whole impact both your system and the software has to have it. Commercial rock is the best example of what it isn't.
