RE: Atkinson re Ayre C5xe

>So would John Atkinson advise me to forget about buying an Ayre C5xe? I suspect so.

It's still a great-sounding player, and Ayre keeps a stock of the Pioneer mechanism in
case of long-term problems with that part. Hand on heart, CDs played on the Ayre
still sound slightly better than the same files played on the computer through the same
DAC. But the convenience of having my music library instantly accessible from my
listening chair is so seductive!

I bought my C-5xe in the summer of 2005 and it has been very reliable in all that time. The
only time it went back to Ayre was to have the MP upgrade, which was well worthwhile.
