Congrats on getting them to change, though. More transparency is always a good thing.
When I was reviewing I would often list other loaned equipment I was working on as "associated equipment" since I used it with the piece in the review.
The magazine even sent me an amp or preamp for use as comparison equipment from time to time - they had a few pieces which were passed around by the reviewers.
I wouldn't review an amp with out trying it on at least two different speakers and the same for speakers with at least one ss and one tubed amp.
