Aesthetics != Neutrality. Different conversations.
It should be but it is not.
Presumptive "neutrality" or dreamland "accuracy" has become an aesthetic quest of its own, dressed up in language that reaches for fundamental justification in reality.
...but it is all just wordplay.
Orwellian, even.
Not that I even believe in the possibility of neutrality or would necessarily want it if it were possible.
The gear that most would call 'neutral" or "accurate" often strikes me as dry and lifeless. Music is not that way.
Think of what characteristics comprise "neutral' in your mind.
To me, the term valorizes mechanical interference in the music listening process. It is for people who like electronics.
