Art Dudley's vintage speakers

Well, much of this circular: pick manufactures/sellers who love HE speakers that can be driven by low power tube amps, and you get Art's list (scans the Quad ESL). New versions? Check out what these advisors sell: Shindo, Audio Note, and horns. The first great speaker I ever heard was an Altec driven by tubes (mono). The very next day, I heard another friend's speakers: the Quad ESLs (also mono). Have I every heard better? I preferred the KLH 9s to the Quad 57s, but not by much. A double set of Quad ESLs are STILL VERY HARD to beat or equal. From what I have heard, the full Shindo system, including their expensive speakers, is impossible to beat in terms of midrange purity, dynamics, and clear, effortless sound. For those of us who are of more humble means look to Audio Note or Sonist or DeVore speakers.
