...reviewing for TAS from 1985 to 2001, I never received pressure from anyone to write a positive review or change anything I had written.
Reveiwers are like independent contractors - I would identify equipment I was intereted in and request through the magazine to review it.
Occassionally, I would be asked to review a product they had procured for one reason or antother.
And I've never heard from any reviewers who had any pressure to write something positive either - it just doesn't work that way - they all tell "the true story".
That naysayers here are projecting their own ethics on to the reviewers is the only thing I can imagine.
A manufacturer (who posts on AA, by the way - not Hansen) once bugged HP a lot about a product I was supposed to review and even threatened to pull his advertising if it wasn't done the way he wanted.
HP cancelled the review and told the guy he was prohibited from advertising in the magazine.
