Being that the study of acoustics is far for being complete, even scientific evidence is "opinion" as the simple moving of the microphones used to measure, by millimeters will change the results, the microphone amplifiers used, even the cable. As per test instruments, ambient temperatures can affect the piece being tested as well as voltage supplied to the test instrument and most certainly, the interpretation of the test results, both as the tester and the reader.
We have all 'sensed' differences in equipment as it 'wears in" whether this is component level changes in physics due to thermodynamics or not, even the best conceived equipment will vary from one sample to another., including actual test instruments, as they are calibrated around certain known points, usually not the entire spectrum of testing.
Standards of testing also are all over the place due to ambient temps, voltage supplied, radiation from the outside and so forth. It is most difficult for two independent laboratories to get exact readings at different times, even the same laboratory. Imagine the frustration when a scientist returns to the experiment to find the results cannot be duplicated because said scientist did not account for ALL of the variables.
Listening, emotion and interaction is of the subjective. Those constitute a vast majority of the end game with high end audio. I am "for" standards and measures as long as it supports the end game and the end game, even though as we know it is left to CHANCE...hardly the "scientific proof" is the final say or even the major player.
A standard disclaimer of such is rarely seen and those who take measurements as "absolute" should also believe in the tooth fairy, imho-
