I'm back! OK, let us try to understand what REALLY happened.
As many here know, the Vendetta Research SCP2a took off, before getting any HP review.
However, HP and I were 'colleagues', distant ones for sure, BUT he would call me up and complain about the manufacturer who happened to be located across the street from me for years, had been hassling Harry for some reason. I jumped in and told Harry that that 'manufacturer' had done me 'dirty' too, and this established the bulk of our relationship. Sort of kinship, having the same adversary, and having mutually visited our respective locations. Nothing really more, but I thought he was a colleague, like so many that I have.
Well, I DIDN'T need a review, in fact, my associates recommended against it, because a review from HP could be destructive, and I had several great reviews from 3 different major magazines out there. (you know, HP's direct competitors)
In any case, Steve Stone ordered a Vendetta Research SCP2a from me, and he apparently took it over to HP's, or in any case, HP heard it, and wanted to review it. THEN, Sally Reynalds (sp) then HP's secretary contacted me, gushing over the unit's subjective acceptance, BUT HP needed a special modification, that is: a 47K load.
Well, I took the unit originally meant for my business partner (Carl Thompson) modified it for 47K loading, and sent it to HP for review. Also, I INSISTED that I wanted the unit returned to us, so that I could send it on to its original owner, who still has it today.
The first thing that happened was that HP immediately went on vacation.
Then, he or his set-up man did NOT read the set-up sheet that NOTES that the SCP2a is INVERTING, and direct comparisons with our units must keep this into account.
Of course HP listened to the SCP2a, as is and found that some of his favorite recordings sounded slightly off. He had some more criticisms (some very informative, and helpful for future upgrades), BUT the ORIGINAL review had lots of extra stuff concerning the guy across the street and me, that could have caused even more trouble for me. I called Sally and demanded that it be removed. Mike, sometime I could show you the original review, and you would understand the situation better. However, I was told by Dave Wilson, at the time, that HP nixed any follow up, since Stone, Wilson, Marks, and probably other reviews, had an SCP2a, at the time.
Finally, yes one negative review killed my business, I had a hard time getting the unit returned, and HP never called or spoke to me again, until that incident mentioned above. Make sense now?
