I think this particular section of TAS is for their reviewers and their reviewers pet finds for the year. One guy may focus on value, another on innovation, and so on. It's up to the staff members individually. I think that is a cool idea, personally. It's an opportunity for revewers to tell the public about products that they deem as worthwhile and that may never have a chance of getting a feature in the review section. If they wish to tell us about theory or prototypes or one of a kind products, what's the harm? It's not the review section, after all.
