Perception is reality. Simply avoid the perception. Sure, discontinued products won some awards. As did the Calibrun table. The difference is that even though a discontinued product my win an award, that product is still available in the market, somewhere, for purchase. Although the Calibrun may cost a ton of money, it is still available. The speaker which JV writes of? Nope. Or maybe, depending how much you are willing to pay.
You've read the dialog. You see no problem with him writing in the magazine that it is a prototype, and is not available, until maybe March, then again, maybe not, and then in follow up writings that it actually is available, if you want to pay the freight? Ante up to the bar, apparently the manufacturer will pour you a drink. Of course, he is busy fermenting the rye while you are waiting.
No big deal. You do not want accountability and honesty, then you will not get them.
