Didn't something like this happen with the Hovland HP-100 preamp or is my memory failing me? IIRC the original preamp was released and the reviewer had problems with it or felt in the end it was still a work in progress as released more than a finished product. Hovland apparently read the review and immediately rectified the problem(s) that were based on what the reviewer heard! I may be mistaken but I honestly believe it was the Hovland preamp.

Also ---{once again IIRC}--- back in the old days when TAS and Stereophile were in the smaller format, often times a reviewers would complain that an audio component was slightly bright, dark etc in a review and then lo and behold I'd read in the manufacturer's comments where the manufacturer rectified the problem by changing a cap, inductor, resistor etc. Weren't these manufacturers also using the reviewers and their reviews to fine tweak their audio components? I'd have to say yes, because if they honestly believed their product was finished and sounded how they wanted to their reply should have been something like "Well that's your opinion but, we disagree! We think the XTC Preamp sounds wonderful and would ask that readers audition it for themselves in their own system!" Instead of saying the "problem" was rectified by changing a cap, inductor, resistor etc.

I really don't see a great difference between these two issues. IMO in the reviews I spoke of above the manufacturer simply used the reviewer and their review to listen for anything the manufacturer might have missed and then after reading the review the manufacturer used the reviewer's criticisms to put the final touches on their audio component.
That said, I understand in principle the difference between a prototype and a finsihed product but from what I've been reading on the internet about these speakers they seem more like pre-production examples of a speaker that might soon be released than just a prototype to me but, what the heck do I know?
