You mean, like have I ever opened my desk at home, searched around for some tacks, opened a map of the continental United States, placed said tacks on some major metropolitan areas, then hopped on the internet searching for a dealer in that city, trying to arrange a home demonstration of a particular piece of audio equipment, such, like, maybe speakers, then calling them to ask that dealer, who likely has not much spare inventory on hand, to mail me the latest Gizmo speaker, likely off his sales floor, that I am interested in?
Or, do you mean have I searched the web for various dealers in various metropolitan areas, and ran through the same procedure, except without using tacks and a map?
And then did I hit the repeat function so that I could audition more than one piece of gear from more than one dealer, assuming the dealer does not carry more than two pieces or so of comparable gear?
No, I must admit that I have never done that. I guess if I was buying a pair of Wilson Grand Slamms I might do so. So I guess what you really mean to imply is that if I, the consumer, were spending a small fortune such that a dealer would find it economically worthwhile in these times of escalating fuel costs to transport me to his shop for an audition and purchase, then I should be able to audition gear. Okay, I'll concede that.
Somehow, though, I do not think that your suggestion solves the problem of the audiophile without a local dealer. Or, at least the audiophile spending, say, a few grand on a pair of speakers. I mean, with the dealer's overhead that we are always hearing about, I doubt any dealer is paying to transport that consumer anywhere.
I am interested in the Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood that Robert Reina raved about, and which my local dealer does not carry. If you are offering an audition, let's talk.
