"It is the editor's decision whether a product distributed by mail-order or via the Web qualifies for review." [and we can assume such covers direct sales as well]How could he have missed that!... damn troll if there ever was one!
....
Nevertheless I believe the poster made a rather good case for the similarity between the two reviews... Continuum a new company, Caliburn its first product, debuted at a few trade shows in 2005, reviewed by SF in Jan. 06, awarded 2006 Analog Product of the Year!
Then again thanks to the exclusive US distributor we learn that three units sold in the US before the Stereophile review... I guess for direct sales that's as good as The Five Dealer Rule requirement for other manufacturers!
Also when one examines the spirit of the review policy (thanks for the link) and the burdens that adherence to such may entail... I'm immediately reminded of the preamble that appeared at the beginning of your recent Magico V3 review (good review!) discussing being out scooped by TAS due to the requirement of The Five Dealer Rule... the scoop review of the Continuum Caliburn does seem a tad shaky.
But Hey! I see no need to debate the point, after all the policy is perfectly clear, i.e. that in such cases you can do as you please, and as even questioning it sends you straight into a fit of petulance (along with a lightning quick draw of the Troll card) discussion would appear to be the very definition of futility.
LOL
