I do not want to lump all together however I do read the two major magazines and I believe that the purpose of the critc/reviewer is to tell us about the products( more than the pretty knobs, lights and how much it weighs) and to differentiate them. Isn't this there purpose?
What has happened to the industry is that first of all there is a lot of money being made now, not like the old days. I don't know if you are aware that the magazines charge the manufacturers a significant fee to reprint the reviews or to post them on their websites. This precludes really negative reviews because they are then unsellable! I don't need to see a fire started I just want to see womeone tell us the differences if they want our respect. I am a dealer and I discuss the pros and cons of products with other dealers, as well as consumers, all the time. It is what our industry is all about. The products today are mostly excellent and it takes a serious effort to listen and compare. It is not enough to say it looks good and sounds nice and one to consider. This is my point. The reviwing of products that do not exist however is very questionable and borders on colusion don't you think?
