Just got off the phone with a guy at Allied Electronics. I ordered a power strip from him late last week and he wanted to make sure I received the shipping confirmation by email.

We got to talking, and I told him I write for Stereophile. He told me there was another guy "like me" a few months back who approached him for a loan of some piece of equipment (must've been something to do with A/C treatment; this is Allied Electronics after all). They guy (unnamed) said he was an audio writer. He tried to sell the guy on it by pointing out how much it would increase sales once the positive review was published.

I scratched my head. How could he be sure the review would be positive? The answer, I guess, was that he was the one who would be writing it.

Meanwhile, the guy from Allied couldn't figure out why this guy approached Allied instead of the manufacturer. Probable answer: he did approach the manufacturer, but the manufacturer wasn't interested.

In the end, this guy ended up buying the thing, whatever it was, according to the Allied guy. What the Allied guy most remembered was that it took months for them to deliver it. He wasn't sure why.
