In the middle of reading the new Hi-Fi News (April 2007)

And it rocks!

Paul Miller is now the editor, and he seems to have really breathed some new life into the magazine. The graphics layout is clear, interesting, and inviting. There are lots of little "tidbits" columns scattered throughout that are truly interesting. Ken Kessler is back. A factory tour of Chord Electronics was featured.

Full product tests on 12 (!) different products. These deserve special mentions because they combine a lot of nice features:

- Many nice photos of the products, both inside and out.
- To my mind a perfect length of text at a consistent 1.5 pages per review.
- A clear "Verdict" synopsis, complete with a points rating system.
- A brief lab report with the major numbers being reported.

What's also refreshing is a candid honesty regarding a product's weaknesses. For example, reviewer Paul Miller praised the sound of the analog inputs on the Linn Exotik multi-channel preamp, but said that the digital inputs didn't sound nearly as good. He attributed this to a measured jitter of 7300 psec!

So far the only disappointment is that the promised extra technical reports that are supposed to be on the Miller Audio Research website seem to be missing in action.

If you are looking for a good read, with broad product coverage, interesting columns, and nice photos and graphics, check out the new version of Hi-Fi News. I doubt you'll be disappointed. Kudos to new editor Paul Miller!
