for 25 years, my wife and I both have concluded that most charities would not have survived, had it not been for large, self-serving corporations trying to show how magnanimous they are. I say, good for them, because it's good for the charitable organizations.I think it's a marvelous idea that there are 20-somethings in the military reading Stereophile. Isn't that the main concern of most baby boom audiophiles? That there is no one in the younger generation taking up the audiophile hobby? Perhaps if there were Stereophile magazines laying around in places where our soldiers relax, when they came out of the military, they might look for a good sound system. I'm told this is what happened in VietNam and they were reading STEREO REVIEW??!!
So kudos to Primedia, John Atkinson, and everyone else concerned, and if the European readers don't like it, tough shit. Maybe the Europeans will see that in the US, whether left, right or in the middle, we are supporting our TROOPS - kids getting killed and maimed. We might disagree with government policy but we are united about our troops. Unlike the Europeans, who are rooting against our troops - and don't tell me that's not true - I am in Europe frequently. It's the main difference between the US and the rest of the world: you can be against the war and still support the troops who are fighting it.
