The Official Bottlehead Bar Guide

Tony Glynn and I, being a couple of old sots, have been tossing around the idea of collecting the Bottlehead community's favorite libations for a Bottleehad Bar Guide for VSAC 2003. We have Doc's blessing, so this is the official call for submissions.

We're not sure how this will turn out. If the end result merits it, we'll search out a printer and have the thing bound for sale at VSAC. However, if the end result doesn't seem to justify the cost of professional printing, we'll work out something of a desktop publishing nature and distribute for nominal contributions to cover materials cost.

So here's what we want from you. Your favorite recipes - submit as many as you like - in a Word document, one page per recipe. Please present them as you would find in a professional bar guide. My current thinking is to break things down by liquor type, possibly even cocktail type. With all the discussion on this board, and because it's the editor's fave, I expect a separate section on martinis, as well as other drinks. But be forwarned, anything with vodka in it goes under the heading "things no self-respecting Bottlehead would drink." ;-)

Please feel free to include anecdotes and other information - historical or otherwise. Make the anecdotes interesting and witty, but I'm not intersted how many times your Mai Tai recipe got you laid your sophomore year in college. Not only do I not care, but at my age it will just make me envious.

In addition to cocktails, a section on things like punches (sangria, etc) could be done. Wine is a pretty complex subject and would be hard to cover comprehensively, but we can do that, too. I can cover the French...err, Freedom wines. I welcome chapters on American, Australian, Italian, German or other geographical areas.

Ditto for beer. Anyone who cares to write a chapter on beer, either commercial available or homebrew techniques (Rick, you listening?) feel free to contribute.

And by all means, please include the kind of music the drink puts you in the mood for.

All contributions should be sent to triodelover@comcast.net. Deadline is 30 June.
