My third attempt at building a FP will be on a larger platform to allow needed switching between a HT receiver and a Marchand XM9 active crossover. Rather then spend ~$50 on a Hammond or Par Metal enclosure, I'm considering using a sheet of 1/4" electrical grade fiberglass (on hand) , dado it into a box with wooden sides (alder of course) and use metal screen top and bottom as needed for ventilation. The box would be about 7"X18"X12" (HWD) with the XM9 taking up the bottom half and the fiberglass suspended above it.Aside from asking if this is just a stupid idea, can someone tell me if I still need a large metal surface for the FP ground plane? If so, I could use some copper sheeting to cover the fiberglass. I could also clad the inside of the box with copper to help with shielding.
Input would be greatly appreciated.
