Well, Doc and Marting solved my resistance problem, and the unit passed the voltage test just fine.but now I have mega-hum. I've rewired the area around the nine-pin socket as recommended (the transformer wires are SHORT... it's difficult to keep them away from the signal wires here!)
but I'm still getting hum, particularly when I plug the unit in. It goes down after about 3 seconds, but is still pretty angry sounding no matter how I adjust the pot. I've already resoldered every terminal searching for the resistance problem... they all look shiny... should I do it again?
re: grounding the input jack. I'm just soldering the 3" 20 ga. magnet wire from the center post of the RCA jack to the ground buss next to it. that's correct, isn't it? otherwise I'm not sure why I was supposed to put this wire in and leave the other end free (page 39 bottom)
I must be the newbie with the most problems here... very embarrassing. Thanks for all the help guys -- if I can get just through this hum I'm home free!
