Hi bottleheads,Maybe that can be of help to somebody, and will probably not hurt.
Recently I changed the Foreplay output caps to Hovland musicaps. The change resulted in bright sound.
Relax and wait a month for break in (I was told). Better, but still on the harsh side.I connected a scope to the output, and found a 650 Khz AM local station putting 5mV (very sensitive to body capacitance )on the output. I tried the filament snubber recommended by VoltSecond (nice web site), ferrite bead on grid inputs, grid stoppers, with no luck.
By pure chance I realized that the output was still there with the unit unplugged (?).
Result :with my ground scheme,(star ground), interconnects and amp input impedance, the caps where acting as a very good antenna, so I shielded the caps with aluminum foil (What I had at hand), and grounded the shield.Noise gone.
No hiss.
Nice sound back.
It´s free, will keep you busy for a while, and worked on my Foreplay.
If you try and it works, please let us know.Miguel
