driving a mono radio with s.e.x

I have an old console radio with a single speaker. I'd like to get both right and left out of the radio, but stereo when using headphones. Is this possible? Is there a way to merge the output of both channels? Sorry if this sounds like a foolish question. Googling I can find a lot of people asking the same question adn no real answers.
