Did I potentially damage my Seduction?

I don't think I hear anything indicating a problem. However, I'd love some reassurance!

Here's what happened. I was switching out the phono cable from my turntable to the Seduction and thought I had powered the Seduction down, but I hadn't. When I was plugging in the new cable to the Seduction I accidently touched the top plate with the left RCA plug and was greeted with a startling loud BZZZZZZZT. It scared me quite good.

I guess my question is twofold: one, why did it emit the sound from just touching the top plate with the plug; and, more importantly, could I have damaged anything in doing so.
